With more than 25 Disney Resorts to choose from, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed.

One of the questions I get asked most as a Disney Travel Advisor is, “Which Disney Resort should we stay at?”

My answer is always the same… It depends on the kind of vacation you want.

Some families spend every waking minute in the parks and simply need a comfortable place to sleep. Others picture slow mornings, afternoons by the pool, incredible dining, and a resort that feels like part of the vacation itself. Neither is wrong—they’re just different.

The truth is, there isn’t one “best” Disney Resort. There’s a best resort for your family, your budget, and your travel style.

That’s why I never recommend the same resort to everyone. Instead, I help families find the resort that fits the way they vacation.

In this article, I’ll help you narrow down your options, share the resorts I recommend most often, explain who I think each one is best for, and give you the same advice I’d give if we were sitting down together planning your Disney vacation.

Whether you’re looking for the best value, dreaming of a Deluxe Resort, or trying to decide if the upgrade is worth it, my goal is to help you book a resort you’ll absolutely love.

Why I Almost Always Recommend Staying at a Disney Resort

Could you save money by staying off Disney property? Absolutely.

There are some wonderful hotels around Orlando.

But if you asked me where I’d stay with my own family, I’d choose a Disney Resort every. single. time.

For me, it’s the little things that completely change the experience. It’s walking outside first thing in the morning with a cup of coffee and hearing Disney music playing throughout the resort. It’s seeing Cast Members wave and tell your kids to have a magical day. It’s knowing that once you’ve arrived, you can park your car and let Disney handle the transportation for the rest of your vacation.

Those little details make the trip feel different from the moment you arrive.

Early Theme Park Entry Really Is Worth It

One of my favorite perks of staying at a Disney Resort is Early Theme Park Entry.

If you’ve never experienced it before, those extra 30 minutes may not sound like much—but they can completely change your morning.

We’ve walked onto Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Peter Pan’s Flight, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, and other popular attractions before the parks filled up. Instead of starting the day in a long line, we’re already checking rides off our list while everyone else is just arriving.

It’s one of those perks that’s easy to underestimate until you’ve experienced it yourself.

Disney Transportation Is Part of the Fun

One of my favorite parts of staying on Disney property is not having to think about driving.

Some mornings we’re floating across Seven Seas Lagoon on the ferry.

Other days we’re soaring above Walt Disney World on the Skyliner.

Sometimes we’re taking a Friendship Boat to EPCOT or hopping on the Monorail.

Getting to the parks becomes part of the adventure instead of another thing to worry about.

My kids have even asked to ride the Skyliner on our resort day because they enjoy it that much…and honestly, I don’t blame them!

Don’t Forget to Enjoy Your Resort

One of the biggest mistakes I see first-time visitors make is treating their resort like it’s just a hotel.

Disney Resorts are designed to be part of your vacation.

Some of my favorite Disney memories have happened after we left the parks. Watching my kids swim while we relaxed by the pool, grabbing Mickey ice cream before heading back to the room, or taking an evening walk while talking about everyone’s favorite ride from the day.

Those slower moments are often the ones we remember just as much as the attractions.

💙 My Tip: If your schedule allows, build in at least one slower morning or afternoon to enjoy your resort. You’ll come home feeling much more refreshed than if every minute of your vacation is planned from rope drop until fireworks.

Disney Value Resorts

If your goal is to spend most of your time in the parks while keeping your vacation budget under control, Disney’s Value Resorts are a fantastic option.

Just because they’re Disney’s least expensive resorts doesn’t mean you’re missing out on the Disney experience. You still get Early Theme Park Entry, complimentary transportation, fun Disney theming, and all the magic that comes with staying inside the Disney bubble.

The biggest differences are smaller rooms, fewer dining options, and fewer amenities compared to Moderate and Deluxe Resorts.

For a lot of families though? That’s completely worth it.

My Favorite Value Resort: Disney’s Pop Century Resort

If you’ve asked me for Disney resort recommendations before, you’ve probably heard me talk about Pop Century.

There’s a reason I absolutely love this resort.

The Skyliner.

I know I keep talking about it, but once you’ve stayed at a Skyliner resort, it’s hard to go back. Being able to hop in a gondola and be at EPCOT or Hollywood Studios in minutes instead of waiting for a crowded bus is such a game changer. It’s faster, more relaxing, and honestly just fun.

My kids still get excited every single time we ride it.

Beyond the Skyliner, Pop Century checks so many boxes.

The rooms were recently renovated, so they feel fresh and modern while still making great use of the space. The Murphy bed gives you more room during the day, the food court has plenty of variety, and the fun décor celebrating the different decades gives the resort so much personality.

Is it the fanciest resort at Disney? Not even close. But that’s also why I love it.

It’s affordable, convenient, and just makes Disney vacations easy.

Best For

• First-time Disney visitors
• Families wanting the best value
• Guests planning to spend lots of time at EPCOT and Hollywood Studios
• Anyone who wants Skyliner access without paying Deluxe prices

💙 My Take: If you told me you wanted the best overall value on Disney property, this is where I’d start. It’s the resort I recommend most often because it gives families so much without stretching the budget.

Trying to decide between Pop Century and Caribbean Beach

If Caribbean Beach is only a little more expensive, I’d probably lean toward Caribbean Beach because of the larger rooms, additional dining, and more relaxing atmosphere.

But if Pop Century is saving you several hundred dollars?

I’d book Pop without thinking twice and use that extra money for experiences you’ll remember forever—a character meal, Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, Memory Maker, or even a special souvenir for the kids.

I’d much rather spend money making memories than simply having a nicer hotel room.

Disney’s Art of Animation Resort

If you’re traveling with little ones, Art of Animation is pure Disney magic.

Walking through the Cars section honestly feels like you’ve stepped right into Radiator Springs. The Finding Nemo area is bright, colorful, and home to Disney World’s largest resort pool, while The Lion King and Little Mermaid sections continue the fun Disney storytelling.

The biggest reason families choose Art of Animation is the Family Suites. Sleeping up to six guests, they’re perfect if you need a little extra room to spread out without booking two separate hotel rooms.

Plus, just like Pop Century, you’ll have Skyliner access to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios.

💙 My Take: If your family needs a suite, Art of Animation is one of my favorite recommendations. If you’re choosing between a standard room at Pop Century and a standard room at Art of Animation, I’d probably choose Pop because it’s usually a better value.

Disney’s All-Star Resorts

Disney’s All-Star Movies, Music, and Sports are the most budget-friendly resorts on Disney property.

All three are very similar, but if I had to choose one, I’d pick All-Star Movies because I think the Disney theming is the most fun, especially for younger kids.

If your goal is simply to stay on Disney property while spending as little as possible, you really can’t go wrong with any of them.

💙 My Take: If Pop Century is only a little more expensive, I’d usually recommend spending the extra money for the Skyliner. If staying at an All-Star Resort saves you several hundred dollars, though, I’d happily book it and use those savings on experiences inside the parks instead.

Disney Moderate Resorts

If you’re looking for a little more space, better dining, and a resort you’ll actually look forward to coming back to after a long park day, Disney’s Moderate Resorts are one of my favorite categories.

For many families, I think they hit the sweet spot. You get a noticeable upgrade from the Value Resorts without the price tag of a Deluxe Resort.

While I genuinely like all of Disney’s Moderate Resorts, there are definitely a few I recommend more often than others.

My Favorite Moderate Resort: Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort

If someone asked me which Moderate Resort surprises people the most, my answer would be Coronado Springs.

The first time I stayed here, I remember thinking, “Wait…this is a Moderate Resort?”

Everything about it feels more upscale than you’d expect. Gran Destino Tower is absolutely gorgeous, the lobby is stunning, and the entire resort has a calm, relaxing atmosphere that feels completely different from many of Disney’s other resorts.

One of the biggest reasons I love Coronado Springs is the dining.

Three Bridges Bar & Grill has become one of my favorite places to grab dinner, especially if you can get a table overlooking the lake around sunset. Toledo is one of the best signature restaurants at Walt Disney World, and even the quick-service options here are better than what you’ll find at many other resorts.

I know one of the biggest concerns people have is that Coronado Springs is also a convention resort.

Honestly? That has never been an issue for me.

In fact, I almost think it’s a benefit. Convention guests are often in meetings during the day, so the pools and other resort areas can actually feel quieter than you might expect.

Another thing I love is that it doesn’t feel overly themed.

If you’re looking for giant Disney characters everywhere, this probably isn’t your resort.

But if you’re looking for a beautiful resort where you can truly relax after a busy park day, I think it’s hard to beat.

Best For

• Adults
• Families with older kids or teens
• Guests wanting a more upscale feel without Deluxe pricing

💙 My Take: If you told me your budget didn’t quite stretch to a Deluxe Resort but you wanted something that felt luxurious, Coronado Springs would probably be my first recommendation. It really is one of Disney’s best values.

Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort

Caribbean Beach is probably the resort I recommend most often for families.

From the moment you arrive, it feels like you’ve escaped to a tropical island. Palm trees, white sand beaches, colorful buildings, hammocks by the water…it’s one of those resorts where you immediately start to slow down.

And then there’s the Skyliner.

Having direct access to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios is one of the biggest reasons families love staying here. It makes getting to two of Disney’s busiest parks incredibly easy, and once you’ve experienced it, it’s hard to imagine going back to relying only on buses.

Another reason I love Caribbean Beach is the dining.

Sebastian’s Bistro is one of Disney’s most underrated restaurants. It’s one of those places I recommend all the time because so many people overlook it, and they almost always come back telling me how much they loved it.

And if you’re looking for a place to unwind after a park day, Banana Cabana is such a fun spot to grab a frozen drink while the kids play nearby.

The only downside? This resort is BIG.

Really big.

If you’re staying here, room location matters. If walking long distances isn’t your thing, I’d recommend requesting a room near Old Port Royale or booking a Preferred Room. It’s one of those little tips that can make a huge difference.

• Guests spending a lot of time at EPCOT and Hollywood Studios
• Anyone wanting a relaxing tropical atmosphere

💙 My Take: If the price difference between Pop Century and Caribbean Beach is only around $40–$60 a night, I’d probably choose Caribbean Beach. The atmosphere, dining, larger rooms, and overall experience make it feel like a much bigger upgrade than the price difference suggests.

Hidden Gem: Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter

French Quarter has one of the most loyal fan bases of any Disney Resort, and after staying here, it’s easy to understand why.

Unlike many Disney Resorts, it feels small.

Really small.

That means no long walks back to your room after a busy park day, and honestly, that’s one of my favorite things about it.

The New Orleans theming is charming without feeling over-the-top, the boat ride to Disney Springs is such a relaxing bonus, and you absolutely cannot leave without trying the Mickey-shaped beignets.

They’re worth the hype.

• Smaller families
• Adults
• Guests wanting a quiet, relaxing resort

💙 My Take: If you’re looking for a peaceful resort where you can truly unwind after a busy park day, French Quarter is one of my favorite recommendations. It’s one of Disney’s best-kept secrets.

Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside

Riverside feels peaceful, scenic, and classic Disney.

I love walking along the river, and one of the biggest perks is that you can easily stroll over to French Quarter for beignets or take the boat to Disney Springs.

The grounds are beautiful, there are plenty of walking paths, and the resort has a slower pace that many families really appreciate after busy park days.

If you’re deciding between the two Port Orleans resorts, I usually recommend French Quarter for couples or smaller families because it’s easier to get around.

If you like larger resorts with beautiful landscaping and a quieter atmosphere, Riverside is a wonderful choice.

The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort

Fort Wilderness is unlike any other Disney Resort.

It feels more like a campground than a traditional hotel, and that’s exactly why so many families love it.

The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness have recently been reimagined as Disney Vacation Club accommodations, giving families an even more comfortable place to stay while still enjoying the unique Fort Wilderness experience. Each cabin sleeps up to six guests and includes a full kitchen, private deck, and plenty of room to spread out.

Beyond the cabins, Fort Wilderness offers campfires, horseback riding, golf cart rentals, fishing, archery, and one of Disney’s most popular dinner shows—Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue. It’s one of those resorts where you could easily spend an entire day without ever stepping foot in a theme park.

💙 My Take: If your family loves the outdoors and doesn’t mind being a little farther from the parks, Fort Wilderness offers a completely different Disney experience that’s unlike anywhere else on property. It’s peaceful, unique, and perfect for families who enjoy slowing down and making the resort part of the vacation.

Disney Deluxe Resorts

If you’re considering a Deluxe Resort, chances are you’re celebrating something special, planning a once-in-a-lifetime vacation, or simply want your resort to be just as memorable as the parks.

While Deluxe Resorts come with a higher price tag, they also offer larger rooms, incredible dining, amazing pools, and some of the best locations on Disney property.

The biggest advantage? Location.

Many Deluxe Resorts let you walk, take a boat, ride the Monorail, or hop on the Skyliner to the parks. That extra convenience can save you a surprising amount of time throughout your vacation.

Would I recommend a Deluxe Resort to everyone?

Honestly…no.

If staying Deluxe means cutting your park days short or stretching your budget to the point where you’re stressed about spending money, I’d rather see you stay at a Moderate Resort and enjoy your vacation.

But if it’s within your budget?

There are some truly incredible options.

My Favorite Deluxe Resort: Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

If someone asked me which Disney Resort feels the most magical, elegant, and “Disney,” my answer would be the Grand Floridian.

From the second you walk into the lobby, it just feels special. The live pianist, fresh flowers, grand staircase, and beautiful Victorian architecture make it feel more like a luxury vacation than a theme park hotel.

And during Christmas?

There is honestly nowhere else I’d rather be.

The beautiful Christmas tree, garland throughout the lobby, and holiday music create one of my favorite places at Walt Disney World. Even if you’re not staying here, I always recommend stopping by during the holidays.

Of course, it’s not just beautiful—it’s also incredibly convenient.

You can walk to Magic Kingdom in about 10–15 minutes, ride the Monorail, or hop on a boat if you’d rather relax. Having multiple transportation options makes getting back for an afternoon break so easy.

Dining is another huge highlight. Whether you’re grabbing breakfast at Grand Floridian Café, enjoying dinner at Narcoossee’s, or celebrating with a meal at Victoria & Albert’s, there’s something for every occasion.

If you’re traveling with a larger family, don’t overlook The Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. Disney recently added beautiful Resort Studios that sleep up to five guests, along with Deluxe Studios and larger villas featuring kitchenettes or full kitchens. It’s a wonderful way to enjoy the elegance and convenience of the Grand Floridian while giving everyone a little more room to spread out.

• Luxury travelers
• Families spending lots of time at Magic Kingdom
• Celebrations and special occasions
• Christmas vacations

💙 My Take: If someone tells me they’re dreaming of a luxury Disney vacation, this is almost always the first resort that comes to mind. It isn’t just my favorite Deluxe Resort—it’s one of my favorite places on all of Disney property.

Disney’s BoardWalk Inn & Villas

If your idea of the perfect Disney vacation includes strolling around with an ice cream after dinner, watching performers on the BoardWalk, and being able to walk back from EPCOT at the end of the night, you’re going to love BoardWalk.

This resort has such a fun atmosphere.

During the day it’s peaceful, but at night it completely comes alive with entertainers, live music, carnival games, and incredible views around Crescent Lake.

One of my favorite things about staying here is the location.

You can walk to EPCOT in about 10 minutes and Hollywood Studios in around 20 minutes—or take a Friendship Boat if your feet need a break.

That convenience is hard to beat.

The restaurants around Crescent Lake are another huge perk. You’re within walking distance of so many amazing dining options at the surrounding resorts, giving you far more choices than most Disney hotels.

One of the newest additions to the BoardWalk is The Cake Bake Shop, and it’s quickly become one of my favorite places to stop. Whether you’re treating yourself to a slice of cake, a beautiful dessert, afternoon tea, or simply walking through to admire the gorgeous décor, it’s absolutely worth visiting.

If you need more space, Disney’s BoardWalk Villas are a fantastic option. Deluxe Studios are perfect for smaller families, while the one-, two-, and three-bedroom villas include full kitchens, separate living areas, and washers and dryers. They’re ideal for longer vacations, multigenerational trips, or anyone who simply enjoys having a little extra room to relax.

• EPCOT fans
• Foodies
• Couples
• Families with older kids

💙 My Take: If EPCOT is your favorite park, BoardWalk is honestly hard to beat. Being able to walk back after watching Luminous without waiting in transportation lines is one of those little luxuries that completely changes your trip.

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort & Villa

If you’re looking for that perfect mix of tropical vacation and Disney magic, the Polynesian is an amazing choice.

The atmosphere here is unlike anywhere else on Disney property. From the lush landscaping and tiki torches to the relaxing music and white sand beaches, it really feels like you’ve escaped to the South Pacific.

One of my favorite things to do is grab a DOLE Whip from Pineapple Lanai and watch the Magic Kingdom fireworks from the beach. It’s one of those Disney moments that never gets old.

The Monorail access is another huge plus, making it incredibly convenient to get to Magic Kingdom and EPCOT.

In addition to the traditional resort rooms, Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows offer even more options for families. The Deluxe Studios are a great choice if you need extra sleeping space, while the new Island Tower has expanded the resort with beautiful accommodations. And if you’re looking for the ultimate Disney splurge, the overwater Bungalows are truly one of the most unique places you can stay anywhere at Walt Disney World.

💙 My Take: If you’re deciding between the Polynesian and the Contemporary, I’d choose the Polynesian every single time. It just feels so much more immersive, relaxing, and special.

Disney’s Beach Club Resort & Villas

Let’s talk about the biggest reason people book Beach Club…

Stormalong Bay.

It’s easily the best pool complex at Walt Disney World, complete with a lazy river, sandy-bottom pool, water slide, and so much room to spread out that it feels more like a water park than a hotel pool.

Beyond the pool, you can also walk to EPCOT, take a boat to Hollywood Studios, and enjoy everything the Crescent Lake area has to offer.

If you’re planning a longer vacation or traveling with a larger group, don’t overlook Disney’s Beach Club Villas. They offer Deluxe Studios along with one- and two-bedroom villas featuring kitchens, separate living spaces, and laundry. You still get all the perks of staying at Beach Club, including access to Stormalong Bay and that incredible walk to EPCOT.

💙 My Take: If your family loves pool days just as much as park days, Beach Club deserves to be at the top of your list.

Disney’s Yacht Club Resort

Yacht Club often gets overshadowed by its next-door neighbor, Beach Club, but it’s a fantastic Deluxe Resort in its own right.

While the two resorts share the incredible Stormalong Bay pool and the unbeatable location within walking distance of EPCOT and a boat ride to Hollywood Studios, Yacht Club has a more sophisticated, nautical feel.

I especially love it for adults, couples, and families with older kids who want all the same location perks as Beach Club with a quieter atmosphere.

💙 My Take: If you’re deciding between Beach Club and Yacht Club, I’d usually recommend Beach Club for families with younger kids because of its lighter, beachy feel. But if you prefer a calmer atmosphere and classic New England-inspired décor, Yacht Club is an excellent choice.

Disney’s Wilderness Lodge

Walking into Wilderness Lodge always makes me stop and look around.

The soaring lobby, massive stone fireplace, bubbling creek, and towering trees make it feel like you’ve stepped into one of America’s National Parks.

Even though it’s close to Magic Kingdom, it feels peaceful and tucked away from the crowds.

Taking the boat over to Magic Kingdom each morning is one of my favorite ways to start the day.

One thing many guests don’t realize is that Wilderness Lodge is also home to two Disney Vacation Club resorts—Copper Creek Villas & Cabins and Boulder Ridge Villas. Both offer beautiful accommodations with extra space, making them perfect for larger families or longer stays while still enjoying everything Wilderness Lodge has to offer.

💙 My Take: If you love cozy resorts and beautiful scenery, Wilderness Lodge is an incredible choice—especially during the holidays.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge & Villas

There aren’t many places where you can drink your morning coffee while watching giraffes walk past your balcony.

That’s exactly what makes Animal Kingdom Lodge so special.

The resort feels like its own destination, with beautiful African-inspired architecture, incredible restaurants like Boma and Sanaa, and breathtaking savanna views.

Animal Kingdom Lodge is divided into two areas: Jambo House and Kidani Village. Kidani Village is home to many of the Disney Vacation Club villas and is especially popular with families because of its spacious accommodations. Whether you stay at Jambo House or Kidani Village, waking up to giraffes and zebras outside your balcony is something you’ll never forget.

The only downside is that it’s a little farther from the other parks, so you’ll rely on Disney buses for transportation.

💙 My Take: If you’re planning a resort-focused vacation, Animal Kingdom Lodge is worth every penny.

Disney’s Riviera Resort

Riviera is Disney’s newest Deluxe Villa Resort, and it definitely has a more modern, elegant feel.

The Skyliner access is fantastic, the rooms are beautiful, and Topolino’s Terrace is one of my favorite character breakfasts anywhere at Walt Disney World.

While it’s gorgeous, I usually recommend Riviera to guests looking for a quieter luxury experience rather than classic Disney theming.

Disney’s Contemporary Resort

Yes, being able to walk to Magic Kingdom is amazing.

And yes, watching the Monorail travel through the middle of the resort is iconic.

But if I’m being completely honest…

The Contemporary has never been my personal favorite.

It’s incredibly convenient, but it doesn’t have the same warmth and atmosphere that I feel at the Grand Floridian or Polynesian.

I completely understand why so many people love it—it just isn’t the first Deluxe Resort I’d recommend if atmosphere is high on your priority list.

Other Disney Vacation Club Resorts Worth Considering

Not every Disney Vacation Club Resort gets talked about as much as the Monorail or EPCOT area resorts, but there are two that I think deserve a spot on your radar—especially if you’re looking for more space or a better value.

Disney’s Old Key West Resort

Old Key West holds a special place in Disney history because it was Disney’s very first Disney Vacation Club Resort.

One of the biggest things people notice when they stay here? The rooms are HUGE.

Seriously…some of the largest accommodations on Disney property.

If you’re traveling with grandparents, older kids, or simply like having room to spread out, Old Key West is one of the best values you’ll find.

The resort has a laid-back Florida Keys feel with colorful buildings, palm trees, golf course views, and a slower pace that makes it feel like a true vacation.

Because it’s a Disney Vacation Club Resort, you’ll find Deluxe Studios along with one-, two-, and three-bedroom villas featuring full kitchens, separate living areas, and washers and dryers.

The biggest downside is that transportation is by Disney bus, so it’s not as convenient as some of the Monorail, Skyliner, or Crescent Lake resorts.

💙 My Take: If having extra space is more important to you than being within walking distance of a park, Old Key West is a fantastic option. I think it’s one of Disney’s best-kept secrets for larger families.

Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa

Saratoga Springs is another Disney Vacation Club Resort that often flies under the radar, but it has so much going for it.

The biggest perk?

You can actually walk or take a relaxing boat ride to Disney Springs.

If your family enjoys shopping, dining, or spending an evening at Disney Springs, that convenience is hard to beat.

The resort itself is peaceful, beautifully landscaped, and inspired by historic Saratoga Springs, New York. It’s spread out, so some areas are a bit of a walk, but the beautiful grounds make it feel much more like a vacation destination than just a place to sleep.

Like Old Key West, you’ll find Deluxe Studios along with spacious one-, two-, and three-bedroom villas featuring full kitchens and laundry.

Saratoga Springs is also home to the unique Treehouse Villas, which sleep up to nine guests and are tucked away in a wooded area, making them one of Disney’s most unique accommodations for larger families.

💙 My Take: If you’re looking for Deluxe accommodations at a more affordable price and love the idea of being close to Disney Springs, Saratoga Springs is definitely worth considering.
